DOWNTOWN BURBANK NEWSLETTER - DECEMBER 2006

Downtown Burbank’s biggest celebration starts Friday, December 1 at 6pm with the Mayor’s Tree Lighting Ceremony at Burbank City Hall.  Join City Council, Santa Claus, Mickey and Minnie Mouse and KOST 103.5 FM’s on-air personality Mike Sakellarides for the official start of the holiday season, when the Burbank High School Choir and kindergarteners from St. Robert Bellarmine Elementary School will sing holiday favorites. Santa will stay until 8pm to visit and have photos taken with children (don’t forget your camera!) while the Holiday Parade starts its journey. Holiday Fanfare Trumpets will lead the parade, featuring the Burbank High School Band, the Road Kings Car Club and an antique fire engine. Be there to see the parade’s star attraction, the Magical Christmas Caroling Truck, a 62-foot holiday float with magnificent Christmas scenes, thousands of sparkling lights and hundreds of singers & dancers who’ll spread holiday cheer through Downtown Burbank streets until 9pm. And all along the parade route, there’ll be live entertainment and special giveaways!

Also starting on December 1, enjoy the Festival of Trees at Burbank Town Center.  Bid in the silent auction for one-of-a-kind decorated holiday trees donated by local businesses.  The silent auction runs from December 1 to12. All proceeds benefit the Burbank Community YMCA’s Annual Support Campaign.

DO YOU WI-FI?
Surfing the web in Downtown Burbank is as easy as 1-2-3. And best of all, it is free. All a customer needs is a laptop with a wireless card (most models built after 2002 have them already installed. Even without a built-in receiver, it is easy to buy and install a "wireless card" from any major computer store.) Downtown's Wi-Fi coverage area extends from the Holiday Inn to Burbank Boulevard, and from the Metrolink Station to Glenoaks. The hotspot offers many opportunities for users to access the Internet on laptops, notebooks, smart phones, personal digital assistants (PDAs) or hand-held game devices.

If you haven't tried using this latest step in computer technology, please check out the complete "how-to" on the Downtown Burbank website, www.downtown-burbank.org.
