DOWNTOWN BURBANK RECEIVES THREE MARKETING AWARDS  AT ANNUAL CALFEST CONVENTION

Downtown Burbank was the recipient of three marketing awards at the annual California Festivals and Events Association (CalFest) CALFEST CELEBRATION AWARDS held Saturday, February 19 in San Jose, achieving 1st Place for “Best New Idea” and taking 1st and 2nd Place for Best Festival Brochures.  The CalFest Awards Program annually recognizes the top innovative ideas and promotional materials for festivals and events in California and Nevada.

12 Days of Holiday Cheer!

1st Place Award for “Best New Idea” went to Downtown Burbank for “12 Days of Holiday Cheer,” the holiday collaboration established by Downtown Burbank with The City of Burbank's Park, Recreation and Community Services department, Radio Disney, IKEA and Burbank Town Center.  The goal was to consolidate all major events and activities during the 2004 holiday period.  The result was more than 30 highly attended events from December 1 to 12, including the Mayor’s Tree Lighting Ceremony emceed by KOST-FM’s Mike Sakellarides, a first-ever parade, a snow day for kids with Radio Disney, a reindeer run fundraiser with Burbank Community YMCA, free movie screenings provided by Cartoon Network and AMC Theaters, and holiday home tours benefiting the Burbank Salvation Army.

Downtown Burbank swept 1st and 2nd Place Awards for Festival Brochures for two events in 2004.

BEACH PARTY NIGHTS1st Place Award went to “Beach Party Nights,” a month-long celebration of California beach culture and music Thursdays in September 2004.  All concerts were free and open to the public.

2nd Place Award went to “Swingin’ Sounds from Downtown.”  Like Beach Party Nights, this live music series occurred outdoors on AMC Plaza every Thursday in July.  In both cases, brochures were awarded for their colorful, informative and inviting designs.

CalFest, based in Tahoe City, Calif., is the leading events and festivals organization in California and Nevada.  Its mission is to provide educational and commercial support for major festivals in the two states, and boasts the Tournament of Roses Rose Parade, Gilroy Garlic Festival and Hollywood Christmas Parade among its members.

DOWNTOWN BURBANK CONTINUES STRONG SALES PACE

Downtown Burbank's sales grew 8% through September 2004, as compared to the same period through September 2003.  The Village District alone grew by 9%.  Sales information for the entire year, including the holiday season, will be available in Spring 2005.

The area's growth has been fueled by the introduction of new retailers and restaurants, which are attracted by the revitalization of Downtown Burbank.  Foot traffic remains strong, and the AMC Theaters continue to rank in the top 5 of all circuits nationally.

Recent openings in the Downtown include Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, Quiznos Sub, Chadaka Thai, O My Sole and Active.  To welcome these newcomers, Downtown Burbank Partnership organized a mega-ribbon cutting ceremony on Saturday, February 5 at 11:00 A.M.  Since the five new merchants are located on the same block between Magnolia and Palm on San Fernando Boulevard, a 200-foot long ribbon was unfurled and simultaneously cut by City of Burbank representatives and members of the Burbank City Council located in front of each store.  Merchants cheered as the ribbon fell, and customers sampled foods, received free gifts and enjoyed live music until 1:00 P.M.
