DOWNTOWN BURBANK PRESENTS - “SWINGIN’ SOUNDS FROM DOWNTOWN”
FIVE THURSDAY NIGHTS IN JULY OF JUMP, JAZZ, AND JIVE!
“SWINGIN’ SOUNDS FROM DOWNTOWN”

Downtown Burbank in association with KLAC 570 AM is pleased to present “Swingin’ Sounds from Downtown,” five nights of jump, jazz, and jive performed by Southern California’s foremost swing acts every Thursday in July.  Events kick-off at 6:00 P.M. with free swing dance classes by instructor Philippe Leibzig.  Bands start at 7:00 P.M.  Concerts run for approximately 2 hours and are free and open to the public.  Audiences are encouraged to dance on the black-and-white tiled dance floor near the stage.

All performances occur outdoors in the AMC Plaza in the heart of Downtown Burbank.  Sponsors of “Swingin’ Sounds from Downtown” include The Olson Company and Southwest Airlines.

Five popular big bands are presented at this month-long dance and swing festival:

July 1 - High Street
A high-energy, nine-piece show band, High Street's repertoire includes cover songs and originals in a mixture of swing, blues, R&B, Latin, oldies and ballads. They're one of the Northwest's most entertaining bands and have been featured at Walt Disney World and, most recently, at Bally's in Las Vegas.

July 8 - Swing Syndicate
With vintage instruments and wardrobe, this seven-piece band delivers their own unique sound by fusing different jazz styles with swing and rockabilly. Besides their own original compositions, they play cover tunes of many great artists such as Frank Sinatra, Louis Prima, Duke Ellington and Elvis Presley.

July 15 - The Swingin' Deacons
These raucous children of swing blow life back into the great old tunes of T-Bone Walker, Joe Williams, Louis Jordan, Roy Brown and other jazz legends. With athletic horns, strong backbeats and crooning lyrics of love, loss and drinking, the Deacons set a table that's feast for the eyes and ears.

July 22 - Swingtown
They've served as backup band for The Temptations, The Four Tops, and The Coasters and, as individuals, have worked with Frank Sinatra, Woody Herman, Buddy Rich, Paul Anka and many other top performers. Now they bring their own special blend of Big Band swing, R&B, disco and rock & roll to Downtown Burbank.

July 29 - Royal Crown Revue
You may recognize them from their film performance in Jim Carrey’s “The Mask,” in which they recreated their turbo-charged stage show. This band was, and still is, the spearheading force behind the retro style which has exploded from underground scene into bona fide cultural phenomenon.

PF CHANG’S A BIG SUCCESS

Since opening two months ago, PF Chang’s China Bistro has gone from strength to strength.  According to Operating Partner Jared Wyrick, support from the community has been great.

“Downtown Burbank has been a very successful location for us.  I’ve been amazed with especially our late night business – we’re frequently busy through midnight.”   Wyrick adds that he’s very impressed by the Downtown feel.  His most popular dish: not surprisingly, the chicken lettuce wrap!
